Balloon Decor Basics
What decorations do I need?
When you're planning an event there are several important things to consider. The answers to these considerations will impact what we are able to create for your event.
How long do balloons last?
Air-filled decorations can last up to 2-4 weeks when kept in an air conditioned space, protected from direct sunlight and sharp objects. Latex balloons naturally become less shiny over time but in most cases we can apply a treatment to prevent this oxidation and keep your display shiny for much longer. For very long installations, we provide a refresh service where our team comes back one or more times during the life of your display to replace any balloons that have lost air and reapply the shine treatment to keep your display looking great!
A standard helium balloon will float for 18-24 hours without any treatment. When balloons need to float longer than 18 hours we add a special treatment called Ultra Hi-Float that can help balloons to float up to 10x longer. Please let us know when you order if your balloons will need to float more than 18 hours.
Can balloons be used for outdoor events?
Yes, we create balloons for many outdoor events each year but there are a few things to consider when planning to use balloons outdoors in Florida.
First, it is best to avoid direct sun exposure if possible. Direct sunlight will cause your balloons to oxidize (become less shiny) faster and more importantly it can heat the air inside the balloons causing them to expand and potentially burst.
Another thing to consider is wind, especially if your event will be near a lake or open field. We use sturdy framework with heavy bases for all of our outdoor displays but if your event will be held in an especially windy area we can also add tie down straps in an attempt to keep your display from being blown over.
We take several other precautions to help outdoor displays last as long as possible such as under inflating the balloons to allow room for air expansion without popping and applying a treatment to the balloons to prevent oxidation if desired. In spite of these precautions, due to the intense nature of Florida weather, we are not able to guarantee how long an outdoor display can or will last.
What is oxidation?
Oxidation is a natural process that latex balloon undergo when exposed to sunlight and heat. Oxidation causes the balloons to take on a velvety matte sheen in place of the shiny sheen that most balloons have to start with. In some cases, a matte look is desirable. There a few ways that we can achieve that look when its desired such as using specially made pastel matte balloons or allowing the balloon to naturally oxidize a little prior to the event. When the velvety look is not desired we also have some ways to try to prevent oxidation such as keeping the balloons in an air conditioned space, out of direct sunlight, or treating the balloons with a special compound that prevents oxidation and keeps the balloons looking shiny much longer.

Organic style variants
There are two main organic variants. The first is created with blocks of colors flowing from one into the next (see image below). The second is created with the colors in the design mixed together and flowing throughout the design (see image below).

Classic vs. Organic Balloon Decor
Classic balloon decor has been the standard in balloon decorations for more than 40 years. Classic decor is created by carefully sizing balloons and arranging them into specific patterns like the spiral patterned arch pictured below (left). When classic decor is executed correctly it creates a very clean precise look.
While classic decor is still very popular and a great choice for many events, a new trend has taken the balloon industry by storm in recent years. This new trend has been given the name Organic balloon decor due to the natural, flowing, and artistic nature of the style. Organic balloons decor uses many sizes and colors of balloons inflated to varying levels to create this natural flowing look. When executed correctly Organic balloon decor is a beautiful expression of art that sets the mood for any event space.
